Leslie Slater-Wilson and Jimmy B. Wilson own Traces Of Light, and they produce all of the photographic art. Their work is shown in their gallery in Cody, WY and on their web site. Their images are presented as limited edition fine art prints, posters and greeting cards.
Their passion for photographic art started in their early teens when they were given their first cameras. Leslie's grandfather was an avid vacation photographer, and he gave Leslie one of his cameras. His love for photography certainly influenced her. Jimmy's first camera was a Kodak Brownie given him by his parents on his fourteenth birthday. The camera's flash unit used the old burn and sizzle bulbs.
Neither Leslie nor Jimmy have had any formal training in photography. They did take one printing course at a junior college to better understand the transition from the original to the print. They have read many 'how to' books and articles, and they have studied the work of other artists, photographers and painters. Most importantly, perhaps, they have released the shutters on their cameras many, many, many times.
Both still use film cameras. About the only images made with 35mm format are the wildlife. Their scenics and close-ups are made with medium format and panoramic format cameras. Leslie is considering a digital camera for her wildlife, but Jimmy will continue to be a stick in the mud and use film as long as it is available to him. His cameras do not even have batteries.
Leslie and Jimmy are happiest in the great outdoors, and they hope they can bring that to you in their photographic art. They try to create images that stir emotions, excite the senses and entice discovery. They look for color rich subjects held in interesting surroundings and lit by the perfect light. One thing they have grown to appreciate and understand is that the lens and film do not see objects. Rather, the lens transmits reflected light to the film. The richest image is given only in the richest light.
