Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What camera equipment do you use?

We use 35mm Canon equipment for wildlife and medium format and panoramic (617) equipment for scenics and closeups.  Tripods are a must, and we use them all of the time.

Do you use digital or film cameras?

Both of us still use only transparancy film.  Leslie, who does the wildlife photography is considering a digital camera just for wildlife.  Jimmy's cameras do not even have batteries, and he promises to be a stick in the mud as long as he can get film.

How do you decide to make a print?

We first critically review our transparancies.  Each of us give the other honest and frank feedback--maybe too honest, at times.  Transparancies that pass this test are scanned on the very best equipment.  Master printers then make a 'proof' for our review.  If the proof passes inspection, then this image is offered as a limited edition print.

How are your prints made?

Our prints are produced by master printers and are either RC prints or Giclee prints.  RC prints are made by exposing photographic paper to light emitting diodes and then chemically processing the paper to bring out the dyes in the paper.  Giclee prints are made by laying pigmented inks onto art paper or canvas.

How many prints do you produce in a limited edition?

Our numbered and signed limited edition prints go to 500.

Do you use filters?

Yes, we use polarizing, warming and neutral density.  Polarizers are used to remove glare and to control the blue of the sky.  Warming filters are used to enhance warm colors and to reduce blue light in certain situations.  Neutral density filters are used to slow shutter speed and to balance light.

Do you frame your own images?

Yes, we have our own frame shop; and we do offer this service.  We hesitate to do this over the web site because there are so many mat and frame choices.  We would be happy to discuss this option if you will call 1-877-527-6912.  We use only non-reflective, UV protective glass.  People who visit our gallery frequently use this option.

Do you offer photography workshops?

We are frequently asked this question by visitors to our gallery.  We have considered offering workshops but have declined to do so because so many have made the transition to digital equipment, and we have yet to take that step.
